sh-op is short for shadows opinions, which is long for shadows, which is what we called ourselves when we started out in the early 90's. in a way it was a tribute to john cassavetes' film shadows, but it was also the idea of shadows as shades - of gray. like black & white photography. even though we use modern technology & work colour & digital, we keep returning to the medium format camera using real film. what do we do with the photos? basically we pair them off with words & sell them to magazines. sometimes we show them in galleries. or we make books. in 2009 we launched our own publishing house sh-op editions.

this is a series of portraits that we do for la libre essentiell. the project aims to shed light on people we find interesting & to promote belgian fashion. basically we connect creative people from fashion with creative people from other fields. sometimes the designer choses his or her "model", sometimes it's the other way round.

though far from being a catwalk photographer, i enjoy the shows & in particular the concentration & frenzy backstage just before... such an amazing amount of work & creation distilled into a few minutes of glamour which will determin the immdiate future of quite a few people. a fashion show is pretty much a do or die sitauation. i always try to go & see a few and here are some that count for me.

La Belgique, le Vin

Pour vivre l'aventure de ce livre, nous sommes partis pendant un an à la recherche de ceux qui aiment le vin en Belgique. Au fil du voyage, nous avons rencontré des chefs, des sommeliers, des importateurs, des cavistes que nous présentons. Au delà des rencontres, nous analysons les prix des vins, comparons, et pointons les associations les plus réussies entre une carte, un sommelier et un chef. L'ouvrage reprend encore les conseils de critiques gastronomiques, de professeurs d'oenologie, de producteurs ou de grands amateurs.

Ce projet s'est construit avec Please Let Me Design pour la mise en page.
